Career in Architecture
Architecture, in particular is the study which deals with planning and designing of building and structures. These structures can include design of townships,
commercial buildings and many more. The subject has been practiced since ages in
different parts of the world. Today, architecture has taken a totally different shape.
With the passage of time the design and shape of the buildings and structures have
gone a sea change. The rapidly changing demands and requirements asks for
professionally trained architects who can not only cope with changing times but
also design and deliver quality, environment friendly constructions.
Construction is one of the fastest growing sectors in the economy all over the world.
In the last few years our economy has witnessed construction activities on a large scale.
New townships are sprouting everywhere. All this has importantly led to creation of
avenues for those interested in making a career in architect. Architects are the people
trained in the art of making a building. They are involved in all the phases of the building
construction i.e. the functional, safety, economical and have to satisfy the needs of its
occupants. They are responsible person for the planning, designing and supervision of

A career in architecture is a very high profile job. There are certain criteria which have
to be considered before planning to take a plunge in this career. While still in high school,
you should plan a strong college preparatory program with courses in English, humanities
subjects, mathematics, including geometry, trigonometry, algebra, and pre-calculus, and
physics. Art courses - drawing, painting, sculpture, or photography - will be helpful in
developing your ability to visualize and conceptualize both important skills to an architect.
Now a days computers have become an integral part of any architecture design so a
course in computers will be extremely helpful in preparing for a career in architecture.
This vast field comprises creative, technical and craft aspects. Since an architect is
responsible for the planning, designing and supervising of construction works, he
should have some creativity.
An Architect has to keep in view consideration of stability, utility and beauty while
planning and designing all civil works. A client’s requirement of appropriate, safe
and economical shelter is satisfied through efficient planning, and by devising
pleasant interior spaces and a beautiful exterior.
The remuneration offered to architects is very high. On successful completion
of the course, the aspiring architects can choose to work in the different fields
like the Department of the Railways, National Institutes of Urban Affairs, Town
and Country Planning Organization etc.
