Rhode Island is the smallest state in the country, as well as one of the least populous and densely populated, though it does boast some of the most renowned institutions. The largest employers in the state are the state government, Lifespan, the U.S. government, Roman Catholic Diocese of Providence, Care New England, CVS Corp., Citizens Financial Group, Brown University, Stop & Shop Supermarket, and Bank of America, according to a March 2011 report by the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation. Growth is expected in all major sectors of the economy through 2018, according to the Department of Labor and Training, with the biggest gains in health care and social assistance, as well as professional, scientific and technical services. The fastest-growing jobs include registered nurses, customer service representatives, child-care workers, home health aides, and accountants and auditors.
