Online Universities in Wyoming
Wyoming is home to the University of Wyoming, the state’s only public, four-year university. This university was founded in 1886, making it the oldest institution of higher education in the state, and has a student enrollment of more than 13,000, making it the largest institution of higher education in Wyoming. The school is ranked No. 152 in the nation by U.S. News & World Report.
Another school system in the state is the Wyoming Community College Commission, which consists of seven two-year community colleges. In addition, the University of Pheonix, WyoTech, Cheeks International Academy of Beauty Culture, and College America all have campuses in Wyoming.
Mining is the main industry in Wyoming. According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, Wyoming is responsible for around 40% of the nation’s coal, making it the largest coal-producing state. The mining of iron, gold, sodium carbonate, uranium, and clay are also vital to the state’s economy.
Agriculture is another major industry in the state and consists of growing wheat, hay, barley, sugar beets, and dry beans, as well as raising cattle and sheep. The tourism industry is also important as travelers come to enjoy the nearly 10 million acres of forest throughout the state, Yellowstone National Park, Grand Teton National Park, the two national recreation areas, and the numerous historic trails and sites. In addition, a number of companies are based in Wyoming, including Challenger Airlines, Aviat Aircraft, Inc., Teton Gravity Research, Firehole Technologies, Inc., and High Plains Uranium.
